Highly modified to fit small hands snugly and make full mittens out of a fingerless mitt pattern. Cabling without a cable needle is the way to go. Mission Falls 1824 wool is a merino dream.

Guernsey

My first chance to break out the blocking wires, finally Guernsey Wrap is done. Designed by Jared Flood, always a pleasure to work with patterns from Brooklyn Tweed. I used Stonehedge Fiber Mill Shepherd’s Wool, a soft merino worsted. Over 6 feet by 17 inches.

This flew by so fast – Jared Flood’s “Romney” pattern, in luscious Malabrigo merino worsted. For Sarah’s Swedish adventure in the fall. And nice that she’s been here to choose the yarn and model the finished product.

Imagination blanket

My “scrap” blanket in progress. Knitted lengthwise, all garter stitch, changing color/yarn every few rows, anything goes, whatever I want to pull out of my stash and use up. “Making it up as I go along” is what makes me happy.

Puppy sweater

A sweater for Truffles, a white chocolate Havanese puppy who lives in the Bahamas and has no winter wardrobe for future travels. I went into this not expecting perfection. It was going to be an experiment. Now that I mis-measured the shoulder length too short, the sweater might not fit. Maybe it will.

Below is the sweater I made from Jean Clement’s wonderful customizable pattern called Darling Darby, modeled by a jar of rice. (And thanks to Jean for all the help!) I hope it fits Truffles better than this, and hopefully sometime next month will have a photo to tell the rest of the story. And show how infinitely cuter Truffles is than a jar of rice.

Malabrigo, Merino, Men

Knitting for men this time (and dogs, but that’s another story). Just as I’m moving away from the blues, the blues make a brief reappearance. This is a gaiter (cowl) for Mark, and modeled by Sarah. In the new Malabrigo Rios, a beautiful and soft superwash yarn. I love the slight variegation, although the stitch pattern–Darkside Cowl by Sara Fama–doesn’t show up as well in this darkish color. Below is a watchcap for Greg, in Malabrigo chunky. Both simple patterns in yummy yarns.

Johnny hat

Well, modified Johnny hat. No stripes, no Johnny. But this is one warm and cozy hat, and I love this Shepherd’s Wool. Good for all that rugged snow-watching that I do.
